During a long gaming session, it's critical for your gaming headset to feel just as wonderful as it sounds. Initially we had a hard time breaking in the LS20 and the LS30. The ear cups sadly fit too snug around your head causing mild head pain. We also had an issue with the headband pressing down a little too much because of this snug fit. However, we did find that flexing the metal combined with regular use helped immensely and now both sets of headsets offer a reasonable level of comfort. Just like a good pair of shoes, you may find that these headsets need some breaking in time before you can fully appreciate them. The super plush ear cups also add a great deal of comfort as well as breath-ability so overheating does not seem a real issue.
One difference between the two headsets when it comes to comfort is that the LS20 has on ear cups, while the LS30 has over the ear. This might not be a deal changer for some, but those with larger heads or ears might really want to consider the 30, just for increased comfort. In our opinion this is the biggest flaw of both the LS20 and the LS30 is that it doesn't feel as light on our head as we would have liked and this can make it difficult to play for many hours without a break.
In terms of design LucidSound nailed a clean cut look for both of the headsets. Simplifying the gamer headset was a nice move by Lucid. Often, gaming headsets are designed with exaggerated and bulky features that become cumbersome for the standard user. These can include items such as large ear cups, a conspicuous headband, or even an awkward microphone that cannot be removed. One can easily use the LS20 or the 30 for their normal travel adventures without worrying about getting strange looks from others. Both headsets feature two microphones options. One is an adequate sounding built in microphone, while the other, a detachable boom mic, sounded superb. When testing both headsets we received the same results and must recommend the detachable boom microphone when using any voice chat.
The big brother of the LS20 is without a doubt the LS30. At the discounted price point of $111.99, the LS30 takes everything awesome about the LS20 and manages to make it even better. Gone is the need for wires as the LS30 operates completely on a wireless connection. As an added bonus the LS30 also offers legacy support for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
