*cough* Silent Hill 2 HD *cough*
However it seems that companies are now taking a different approach to older titles from the PS1 era of gaming. They are not getting new filters slapped onto them, but are being completely remade from the ground up.
Activision had it's test game with the remaster of Crash Bandicoot N' Sane Trilogy and there are profits to be made. Released almost a year ago, Crash Bandicoot has shown the development teams at Activision that there is potential in reviving these iconic characters from the mid 90s. The trend seems to be continuing with the recent news that Spyro the Dragon will be getting the same treatment as Crash Bandicoot.
Recently confirmed by Activision, a game is set to be released under the title Spyro Reignited Trilogy. This remake will include the first three PS1 games, Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage, and Year of the Dragon. The team behind the game wants to stay as faithful to the original games as possible. The soundtrack is to be inspired by the original composer, Stewart Copeland. Even the original voice actor of Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon, Tom Kenny, has returned to rerecord the voiceover work of our main protagonist.
Changes will be made, but all will be for the increased enjoyment of the game. Besides the obvious visual upgrades, the controls have been tweaked to offer better camera and analog stick controls.
When shall the public be able to get their hands on this nostalgia bomb? Pre-order of the game is available for PS4 and XboxOne now with a release date being set on September 21. Not only does this mean release is just five months away, but it also coincides with the 20th anniversary of Spyro the Dragon's first appearance.
How many of you are waiting with anticipation for this return to glory for old Spyro? What other PS1 or older games should get the same faithful treatment?
